UK Bus Awards
Go-Ahead London is proud to be shortlisted in a number of categories for the UK Bus Awards. The winners will be announced at the London Hilton on 12 November.
1. London Bus Garage of the Year
The company’s Waterloo Garage is one of six garages to be nominated for this prestigious award, the shortlist for which is drawn up by Transport for London.
2. Top London Bus Driver
Each bus garage in London was invited to nominate the driver who they believe demonstrated excellent performance from the customer perspective in the 12 months ending June 2009. Stephen Winfield of New Cross and Bob Wiltshire of Bexleyheath have joined an exclusive shortlist of eight.
Stephen and Bob are both long serving employees who would be worth recipients of the award and deserve to be recognised.
3. London Service Quality Award
This category focuses on an individual or team of staff who have consistently gone that extra mile to help provide top quality service to London’s bus passengers; Putney’s team of engineers are one of four teams of staff to be shortlisted. The team were nominated by their Engineering Manager, John Hanby, who says, “I know every year, day in and day out they give 100% to ensure London gets a good reliable service for its passengers”.
4. Innovation
This is the category which recognises and rewards new thinking in the industry. It focuses especially on products which can reduce environmental impact, improve efficiency or make bus travel more attractive.
The company’s Go Green campaign, which is up against six other shortlisted projects, has embraced technology and training to deliver ground breaking reductions in CO2 emissions. Through the integration of an electronic monitoring system, awareness campaigns and incentivisation programmes Go-Ahead London’s staff have become more efficient and safer.
The campaign began in August 2008 and has delivered a 10% improvement in fuel consumption and a 20% reduction in site energy usage. Given that this is across 13 depots, 1,500 buses and 4,500 staff, Managing Director John Trayner said he was very proud of the achievements of the Go-Green team.
